About my blog

Hello! I'm graduating this year from the double master degree of Industrial Ecology en Science Communication at TU Delft. This blog is about my final year at TU; how do I get sick of TU Delft so I can start my "grown up life" without getting too nostalgic the rest of my life about "my" University. Enjoy reading :)

This week is my last. Friday I hand in my graduation report to the critical jury of thesis supervisors. Is it almost finished? Well … let’s say that it still needs some work.

So yeah, I’ll start writing now in my beautiful scientific English and leave this fun blog alone for a while. As a goodbye, these wise words.

Beautiful stuff (according to me ;)

A building that plays music when it rains

Unreal time management

Who is making the time at our graduation office tick faster? Me and Ammaret (my roommate) are sure that something dodgy is going on. How else could we explain that even though we planned enough time to finish our stuff, we still didn’t finish (and believe me, we both really had to finish today). For me the big problemo is my results chapter. Today I forced my brain and hands: TYP, THINK, TYPE TYPE, THINK HARDER! And do you think this resulted in a finished result chapter? WRONG!

And now, I want to continue to work but my brain refuses. When I look at my Word document a Blugh, Pfff, Tsss feeling spreads over my brain. A bit similar to a bike tire deflating .. but yeah, it´s my brain deflating and that can´t be healthy. Today this blog post serves as my only creative output, maybe this is the way to pump up my brain a bit so I can keep on working. Sleeping seems actually like a good idea as well. And a much more attractive idea I have to admit. What a shame that I dream of my research lately… this might ruin the relaxing experience a bit.

Ok, I made up my mind, I´m not superwoman I´m going home for dinner and look at my work tomorrow with a fresh head. Sorry clock and planning, you’re here to keep me on track but today I’m going to forget about you. Let’s see what a nice night of thesis dreams will bring for inspiration tomorrow …

Ps: In case that you think that I’m a bit crazy after you read this blog post … Well, you might be right …

Coding like Crazy!

The day has arrived … I collected all my research data, so now in the beautiful rules of qualitative research I may start coding. What is coding? Coding is like cleaning up your room, but then more fun [hmm…]. You take all your transscribed user tests and start to make order out of your data. Where does the sentence: "I get the idea that there are mostly examples on this website, that can be interesting" belong too? I grouped it within the catagory Cases, and that catagory belongs to the bigger catagory Information, and Information belongs to the catagory Design Criteria. Yes, sooooo nice putting stuff into the right boxes (and the right boxes in the right closet, and the right closet into the right room).

So yeah, my table looks like this:

Now just getting it onto paper (or at least into my computer).

Something beautiful to brighten up this day

On the blog of the artist who created these collages (the lines are made by colored threath) there are more awesome collages.

Little boy, huge sumo wrestler

I like these photo’s; a speaker at the PCST (Public Communication of Science and Technology) conference used one of them to illustrate how she felt when she tried to make a change in a rigid bureaucratic system.

Would you like to see some more? Google: Sumo boy little / Little guy sumo. Enjoy and use them wisely.

Are creative people messy?

I hope so! That would be the best excuse for me to explain the mess on my desk … Lets start cleaning 🙁

A (late) date!

The official date is now … (drums beating …) 24th of August!! Yes, a month later, but everybody can be there, so it’s wonderful. I’ll go on holidays before, come back beautifully tanned (uhm … like that will ever happen), relaxed and ready to present like I never did before.
