About my blog

Hello! I'm graduating this year from the double master degree of Industrial Ecology en Science Communication at TU Delft. This blog is about my final year at TU; how do I get sick of TU Delft so I can start my "grown up life" without getting too nostalgic the rest of my life about "my" University. Enjoy reading :)

No date?

The latest development, at the 30th one of my graduation supervisors is on holiday … So … Hmm … What to do?

New date

A tip from me: arrange your green light & graduation date on time! Mine got rescheduled because not everybody could meet on my ideal date. Still it’s ok; I was getting stressed out because I needed to do too much… now I’ve got some room to breath again.

It’s getting serious

Wow, I made a planning. This might not be too remarkable for some people, but for me it’s a giant step. Chaos runs my world, and that’s the way I like it. But, because my heart raced everytime I thought "graduation is getting near" I decided to plan my next steps.

I did do this in a ‘Merel kind of way’. So lots of post-its ánd including a reward system. It shouldn’t get too serious ofcourse. Now I have to run and start progressing the user tests I did, otherwise I’ll get behind the planning allready at day one. Or is this how planning works?

Study trip

Yes, after 25 long hours bussing (my new cool word for sitting, sleeping, eating, watching, talking in a bus), we arrived in Florence. This week the PCST (Public Communication of Science and Technology) conference will take place, an event no science communication student should miss. A little warning from me, this week there probably will be no blogposts because I’m eating gelatto’s (icescream) in the sun 🙂

Graduation date!

I’m scared. I’ve got a date. A real one, it’s in my agenda… the 20th of July. I really wanted a date, but now I have it, it feels scary. I’ve got so much stuff I need to do before the 20th! So, I’ll stop talking about "this is scary"and transform it in my head into "this is great!". Wish me good luck!

Freezing – and lonely – physics building

The physics (or TNW) building is the most scary building at TU Delft. At least, that’s my opinion. It has these crazy smart people experimenting with nano bioscience and nano transport phenomena. In the cellar floats a huge bubble of helium that’s used to cool the set ups of the nano researchers. The cellar is scary in itself, it has long dark hallways with shiny metal pipes on the ceiling. Brrr.

Double brrr, it’s freezing cold in the building! I feel my fingers numb down while writing this, and very fashionable, I’m wearing two (!!) vests on top of each other. I’m working today in the big scary TNW building, all on my own. Sometimes I hear some suspicious noises .. maybe a nanoscientists is somewhere in this building doing something that I wouldn’t understand even when he or she took the time to explain it to me.

I hear somebody scream! I run to the window and discover it’s just a student (like always). At least that event warmed me up for a bit, I’ll continue working now … Hopefully tomorrow my graduation roommates will join me with working and the TNW building will be more filled and less scary …

Things I like!

Arboretum (Tree garden)

I’m trying to write an article for KIJK (I’m a freelance science journalist). But, the problem is ZERO inspiration. I decided to take a nice big walk and to visit a place a passed by often, but never went in. The Arboretum (or tree garden) in Delft.

In the garden, I sat, I thought, I talked (to the voicerecorder on my mobile phone), and wrote some stuff down. Enough for me to start to write the article at home (hooray!). I found this awesome tree in the tree garden I would like to share with you … so please enjoy the photo’s below. And .. the zero inspiration could be due to the hangover I’m suffering from … my tip to you if you suffer from the same thing as me (headache mostly), sit in the arboretum; it calms your head ;).

A last tip, you can find nice trees closer by Uni in the botanical garden of TU Delft. They even have greenhouses there where it’s nice and warm. Also, the Mekelpark has awesome trees ofcourse.
